The main character is a young, wealthy graduate of private school. His parents expect him to take a little break and then start building his own career. His neighbor, rich and sexually insatiate woman, has other plans for him. In view of her not very subtle attempts to seduce him young boy is torn by mixed feelings and each new experience pushes him away from his family instilled pontify and indifference feelings. Neighbor soon discovers that he fell in love with her daughter, and wants to give her away as quick as possible to someone else. The so far quiet and shy young boy rebels, kidnaps the girl from the church and runs away with her.

This is the first movie of Dustin Hoffman, after hich he became the idol of his generation. The film represents rebellion and aversion against ossified principles of previous generations. After this film, Hoffman played in many famous productions, is known for his unique talent and a great work blending into the character to identify with it. He convinces the viewer as any character he played. The atmosphere of the movie is filled with songs of Simon and Garfunkel.
