Annie with her husband and daughter Grace live in the east United States, they both have a very responsible jobs. Grace is keen on horse ridin, her beloved horse is called Pilgrim. One day, together with a friend, she goes for a ride in the morning and the both are hit by the truck. As a result of the accident Grace’s friend is killed, she loses a leg, and Pilgrim is seriously wounded. Immediately they want to ease his pain and put him to sleep, but Grace’s mother opposes to it, she knows the bond between the horse and her daughter. They search for help and find the horse healer Tom in Montana. They visit him on his ranch and after initial reluctance, Tom begins to deal with the Pilgrim’s trauma, but that’s not all he can do for that family.

It’s a very beautiful film, mainly about horses, filmed in the beautiful scenery of Montana. Robert Redford himself has a ranch and horses, so his attitude and behavior is extremely natural. Actually, the love story for me is almost marginal, although poignant and beautifully shown. But the horse is a unique animal, gentle and intelligent, you have a unique approach to understand them and all of that you can see in this movie. This is a movie about sacrifying yourself for the others, but also about finding yourself in this sacrifice. Although the film has a different ending than the novel by Nicholas Evans, but both are interesting and worth to know.
